Electrical Instrumentation Technician

Job Description

Participate in all activity associated with the maintenance and support of the manufacturing environment, facility and equipment.

1. Maintain, repair and install all equipment associated with manufacturing and the manufacturing environment in a paper mill, including the buildings, equipment and grounds safely.
2. Develop and perform the procedures and activities associated with an effective preventative program.
3. Participate in the reliability program.
4. Enroll and pass LRC in house maintenance program.
5. Must support and participate in Kaizen, 5S, Total Productive Maintenance, Reliability Centered Maintenance, and other continuous improvement efforts, as required for this position.
6. Responsible for training sessions with machine operators, teaching fundamental procedures and techniques for proper operation.
7. Participate in training exercises and classes required to remain competent in the maintenance field.
8. Assist in the mechanical field of the maintenance department.
9. All other assignments as assigned by Management.

Knowledge/Degree/License Requirement:
1. High school graduate or equivalent.
2. Candidates must possess a Certificate of Apprenticeship or Journeyman license in Electrical/ Instrumentation or currently in the Electrical/Instrumentation Apprenticeship Program.

1. 3 -5 Years Industrial Electrical/ Instrumentation experience is preferred.
2. Electrical / Instrumentation in the paper machine environment is preferred.
3. Experience in preventative maintenance programs is preferred.


1. Self-motivated team player, with ability to acquire skills to remain proficient in electro-mechanical skills.
2. Understanding of how to read Electrical / Instrumentation prints to included, one-line diagrams, elementary diagrams, wiring schematics, control schematics, P&ID's, loop diagrams, etc.
3. Program, edit, upload/download, and maintain software for PLCs, controllers, and AC/DC drives.
4. Troubleshoot, test, tune, and maintain the following: pneumatic, hydraulic, electronic control systems/components, motor starters, AC/DC drive systems.
5. Utilize various test equipment such as: multi-meters, oscilloscopes, laptop computers, and other hand-held devices.
6. Properly size wire, conduit, fuses, and overloads.
7. Understand transformers-isolation, step up, step down, and control; electrical power distribution systems, control loops, chart recorders, and SAFE electrical procedures (NFPA 70E, LRC safety policies and procedures, etc).
8. Ability to bend and install conduit, copper, and stainless-steel tubing.
9. Remove, install, and align motors.
10. Mark print changes and label all wiring, components, enclosures, etc.
11. Strong interpersonal skills, verbal and written abilities.

1. Walk/stand on concrete floors up to 12 hrs / day.
2. 12 hour shift work hours.
3. Work holidays, weekends.
4. Bend, stoop, and twist as much as needed to perform all types of maintenance work.
5. Lift up to 100 lbs. as needed to perform duties.
6. Climb up to 30 ft. using a ladder to perform duties.
7. Able to enter confined space throughout the facility as need.
8. Able to use high lifts as needed.
9. Exposure to noise levels exceeding 90DB.
10. Exposure to chemicals, fumes from welding cleaning and lubrication.
11. Must be able to wear Safety Apparatus Required: Ear plugs, safety shoes, safety glasses, gloves and other PPE as required.
12. Exposure to paper dust.
13. Operate computer key board.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
